The Sims franchise, which was first released in 2000, has been a favorite life simulation game for many players, largely due to the lack of competition in the market. However, the life simulation gaming industry has become more interesting in recent times, with many indie developers capable of rivaling Electronic Arts’ The Sims.
One such game is Life By You, created by Paradox Interactive and led by Rod Humble, a former The Sims developer who even had an in-game character dedicated to him in The Sims 2. Humble's expertise in the simulation genre, along with his insight into EA, has made the game's special qualities more compelling in a new trailer uploaded by Paradox Interactive on their YouTube channel.
Here are a few reasons why Life By You could be better than the sims.
1. Open World
In The Sims, traveling to different areas, planning an event, or even changing clothes can be tedious as everything requires transitioning to the loading screen. Humble addressed this main complaint by making Life By You an open world game that allows players to roam free in their customizable world. His team also teased that avatars can bike around areas, something that was not possible in The Sims until a few expansion packs ago.
2. Substantial Base Game
The Sims 4 base game is limited, and players need to buy expansion packs to have a great gaming experience, which can become expensive. In contrast, Life By You competes by offering premium-looking customizable details from furniture to variations of wall decorations. Additionally, Life By You allows players to customize everything in their world, including parks and areas they do not own, without using cheat codes or mods.
3. Real, Real-Life Simulation
Paradox Interactive has teased that the dialogues in Life By You will mimic real-life language, as well as human expressions that were lacking in The Sims franchise. Small interaction animations like hugging, kissing, and holding hands look smooth and human-like, making players have a deeper emotional connection with their avatars.
With the rise of competitors and the compelling features they're offering, it is hoped that The Sims 4 might finally improve in terms of modding, customization, and overall gameplay. Players can pre-order Life By You today on the Epic Games Store, with early access to the game starting from September 12.
